RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
All players who are members of the Fort Mill Knicks understand playing travel basketball demands tremendous commitment and dedication to the game and their team. Likewise, parents make great commitment and sacrifice for their sons to play with the team. As Fort Mill Knicks players and parents, we understand and agree to the following sections.
Fort Mill Knicks Values
Community – We strive to help and improve not only by serving the players in our community, but also engaging them to better serve our communities.

Respect – We treat others as we expect to be treated. We respect all individuals and value their contributions.
Commitment – We are dedicated to the success of our players, coaches and staff members.
Parent responsibilities and expectations:
Parents’ most important role is to support their child, team, coach, and organization by positively cheering. Parents will assume financial responsibility and pay in a timely manner. Parents will do their best to ensure players arrive to events on time.
- I understand that I am representing Fort Mill Knicks, and I will always do my best to positively represent the organization and its values.
- I promise to refrain from coaching or directing their child or other players during all games and practices, instead I will allow coaches coach and respect their decisions.
- I promise that I will refrain from making derogatory comments to referees at any time.
- I will do my job as a parent, which means that I will not speak negatively about any coach or player, but rather positively encourage and support my child and my child’s teammates and coaches.
Player responsibilities and expectations:
Players are expected to maintain an organization and team-first attitude. Players should expect to learn and continue to build upon their fundamentals. Likewise, players will learn about the strategic basketball game, including offensive and defensive systems.
- I will to attend all practices, tournaments and team/club events. If, I must miss a practice, tournament or team/club event, I will provide ample notice to my coaches.
- I understand that I am representing Fort Mill Knicks, and I will always do my best to positively represent the organization and its values.
- I will demonstrate good sportsmanship, which means I will be respectful of all players, coaches, referees, and parents.
- I will keep a positive attitude in adverse situations during games and practices.
- I promise to be as passionate about the success and accomplishments of my teammates as I am of my own.
Technical Fouls/Ejections:
Any player that receives a technical foul will be automatically subbed out of the game by the team coach. It will then be up to the team coach depending on the nature of the technical as to if that player re-enters the game. Any player ejected from the game will be automatically suspended for the remainder of that tournament and further disciplinary action may be taken by the Fort Mill Knicks.
Communication with Coaches:
Players should email, call, or text coaches to set up a time outside of practice and tournaments to discuss skill development, playing time, team chemistry or other issues that may arise. Coaches will talk or meet with players in a public, neutral area to discuss the player’s concerns. Coaches will give direct feedback to players to use as a guideline for resolving the issue. Players are expected to reply to coach emails within a timely manner.
Parent/Player Acknowledgment
By checking the acknowledgment box at the time of payment and registration, you (Fort Mill Knicks player and guardian/parent of participating player) understand and agree to the contents and provisions of this responsibilities and expectations document. Lastly, by checking the acknowledgement box you further understand that this document is the property of the Fort Mill Knicks.
